TFDA: 2011 - 12 Winter League

It's TFDA's premier annual event, now in its 24th year! Come get to know everyone else in the Triangle ultimate community!

This mixed gender (i.e. coed) league plays on Saturdays from Nov. 19 through Feb. 18 (no games on Thanksgiving, Xmas & New Year holiday weekends). It culminates with a 2-day tournament on Feb. 25-26!

When:

League pool-play games begin on Nov. 19, 2011 & will take place every Saturday through Feb. 18, 2012 minus holiday breaks for the Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year weekends (i.e. no games on Nov. 26, Dec. 24, & Dec. 31).

Each team will play a game (to 17) during a 2-hour round at either 11am or 1pm (individual team schedules will vary by week). That's 10 scheduled weeks (weather permitting) of 2-hour "regular" season pool-play games.

Standings after the "regular" season games will be used to establish the seeding & pools for a 2-day tournament on Feb. 25-26, 2012 whose outcome will determine the league champion. Tournament play will add an additional 4-7 games per team (depending on performance).

Where:

Weekly Saturday games will be held at Womble Park in Holly Springs in Nov, Dec, & Jan.

February location(s) will be at Lowes Grove & Bethesda Elementary in Durham.

The league championship tournament will be at UNC's Hooker Turf Fields in Chapel Hill (on Sat & Sun), at Lowes Grove in Durham (on Sat), & at 2 other sites TBD (on Sat).

With 11 weeks of pool play games & an average of 5 tournament games per team, the $79 standard registration fee breaks down to an average of less than $5 per game! And it includes a custom designed Winter League Discraft Ultrastar disc (not the USAU design - that's an add-on) & your choice of a short- or long-sleeved cotton jersey in unisex/men's sizing (XS-XXL).

USAU will verify all 2012 memberships in December in order to assess one-time event fees (i.e. for non-member). Additional Instructions:

Players may register individually or in pairs (max of 2 players; both players must indicate the other person in their registrations in order to verify appropriate consent of both parties).

As a special incentive for college players, students from the same school (who are USA Ultimate College Series-eligible) may register to play together in mixed-gender groups of up to 4 max (instead of just 2) as long as no more than 2 of the same gender are included in the group (i.e. 2:1 or 2:2 gender ratios only). So, college students, if you want to carpool to the same field at the same time &/or play with your friends, then make sure you put each other's names down in the pairing/baggage field & mention your school name in the "additional notes for captains" field of the registration questions.

Along with USA Ultimate Event Sanctioning, all participants (USAU members & non-members) are required to complete/sign a 2011 USAU event waiver form. All players will also have to sign/complete a 2012 waiver form in December. While this can be done on a paper form right before your captain lets you play in your 1st league game (& then again in December), TFDA strongly encourages/begs all participants to simply log into your account at https://members.usaultimate.org/members/login.php & sign/complete the waiver electronically. This will save our volunteer captains & commissioners significant time & hassle of handling paper forms.
